Convergys Philippines recently won two Anvil Awards for the successful run of its “Give A Bag of Hope” (GABOH) Year 2 program. For the second straight year, the company received a Silver Anvil for Special Public Relations Program – Advocacy Campaign, as well as a Gold Anvil for Public Relations Program on a Sustained Basis – Community Development.
An entirely employee-driven CSR program, Convergys GABOH Year 2 doubled the impact it achieved last year. More than 33,000 backpacks filled with books and school supplies worth Php 18 Million were raised in a three-month period by 43,000 Convergys employees through salary deductions and donations. The bags were distributed to elementary pupils in 36 public schools and communities nationwide, many of which are established beneficiaries of Convergys in the sites where they are located.
Aimed at helping schoolchildren continue their studies by alleviating the lack of school supplies – a major cause of dropouts – the addition of books and storytelling sessions in GABOH Year 2 also aimed to promote literacy. More than 10,000 volunteer-hours were spent by employees to visit the schools, distribute the bags, and conduct storytelling sessions.
Leveraging volunteerism at a nationwide scale, Convergys utilizes a grassroots approach for CSR where all 34 sites are empowered to select local beneficiaries. Convergys President for Asia-Pacific Ivic Mueco attributes the success of the program to strong employee engagement. “We are grateful to, and proud of, our people’s sustained commitment to make a difference where they live and work. GABOH is one of the ways our employees demonstrate the Convergys Value of ‘Serving the Community.’ While the goal may be simple – helping children have a fighting chance at continuing their education – taken collectively, thousands of employees are bringing about meaningful change across the country. By making the program even bigger through added elements that promote literacy, they are further inspiring the youth and building their communities,” concludes Mueco.
Convergys, a global leader in customer management, has presence in 34 sites and employs 65,000 individuals in the Philippines. It also has Hall of Fame status as Best Company and Best Employer from the International ICT Awards. Check out https://www.facebook.com/ConvergysPhils or hashtag #ConvergysPH for more information.
